Healthy Nails and Your Health

Healthy Nails and Your Health - D'Scent Essentials

By keeping your nails healthy, they can help keep you healthy.  With everything that has been going on in the world: pandemic, Covid 19, allergy season, colds, etc., you want to try and take good care of yourself.  If you can catch an issue before it becomes a bigger problem, that’s all the better.  For example, some people get a runny nose or congestion before they catch a cold.  Some people may get a scratchy throat before they catch a cold.  When these things start to happen, people may start to treat those early signs so they do not catch a cold or flu or anything else.

Your nails can assist with alerting you to early signs that something may not be okay. Keeping your natural nails healthy can also help with your overall health as well.  Per the Web MD website, https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/ss/slideshow-nails-and-health, your nails can alert you that there may be an issue with your heart.  The tissue under your nails will turn red and if your nails are a little whiter than pink, then there may be an issue with your liver.  These are just some examples that can assist with early detection of your health.  Check out the link to an article that can provide more information on that topic from Web MD.com.

Keeping your natural nails healthy can help with your appearance too.  Dirty fingernails can be unsightly and can cause you to get bacteria or another issue, if you don’t keep them washed and cleaned.  Healthy nails should show a light pinkish white color. The free edge should be white or off white.  To help the health of your nails, you should keep them clean.  Here are some tips that can help you with the upkeep of your nails.

Do’s

  • Wash your Hands regularly
  • Clean your nails
  • Keep your skin moisturized
  • File nails in one direction

Don’ts

  • Don’t cut your cuticles
  • Don’t file nails back and forth like a saw
  • Do not ignore issues with your nails

If you try to keep your hands clean and follow the things in the Do list by keeping your skin moisturized by using lotion, (DSE has some great ones) and use cuticle oil on your nails, then this can help the health of your nails and may play a small part with helping to contribute to your overall health.
